We have a '99 9³ with an auto tranny. I thought I was playing it safe by changing it for the first time at 35k. The first linked description is how the 3rd change (1st with Havoline, 2nd with M1) looked. I'd recommend using M1 or Amsoil ATF & changing it once a year (or every 10k mi) until you get 3 or 4 changes in there. After that, return to a more normal 30k mi interval. (Or, at least, you can go back to 60k mi intervals knowing you're well protected with full syn ATF.)
Please let us know how the fluid looks & smells when you change it!
