Important! Change that ATF!

I just changed the ATF again in the '99 9³ this weekend. This was the third change in the last 15,000 miles & it STILL looked like crap! We've only got 50,000 miles on this car, so I can't believe Saab's scheduled interval is 60,000 miles!!
It didn't look & smell burned like it did the last two times, but it's still dirty & there's still a ton of filings on the plug's magnet. Shifting's always been fine. The first time (at 35,000) I used Texaco/Havoline dino ATF, but the second time (at 42,000) & this time (50,000) I used M1 ATF. At this point, I'll stick with syn ATF for as long as we own the car.
Since you only get half the fluid every drain & fill, I'll continue to change it every 10,000 miles until it starts to look reasonably clean, then I'll extend out to 20,000 mile intervals. If the syn ATF still looks good after that, I may take it out to 30,000 mile intervals.
