I had a combination of failing pixels and 3/6 blown bulbs on my SID. On my third go at the SID ribbon cable I got a really good fix, it's 100% pixels now all the time. The bulbs are a seperate problem and stupidly expensive from a dealer ($20ea here), but are just a plain old bulb fitted to a plastic receptacle.
I got a 14V bulb (2W I think) for about 10c, one with 'flying leads' (ie a glass bulb with two metal wires coming out the same as printed circuit board mounted electronics). These leads are twisted around the receptacle to both hold the globe in and also make contact with the board once installed.
Untwist them, remove the blown globe (it's not even glued!), twist the new leads around the receptacle as the old one had been, trim them up. Hey presto, $59.70 in my back pocket for five minutes work. Now if only I could get that rate of pay the rest of the week...
Cheers
Steve
