This was happening to my 2000 Aero a couple of months ago. I took it to the dealer and it turned out to the combustion air intake sensor which had failed. It was about $50 to replace. Other than an intermittant yellow light there were no obvious symptoms, the engine ran fine, however the sensor was telling the ecu that the intake air was -40 degrees C which caused the car to run rich and significantly reduced fuel economy.
Another possibility, and this also happened to my car recently, is failure of the DI cassette. The engine light would appear intermittantly with no other symptoms. This went on for about 2 weeks then one day on the way home from work the engine died and would not start. A trip to the dealer and a new DI solved the problem. They said the engine light no doubt was due to misfires from the failing DI. Mine was replaced under extended warranty, now a replacement might be covered by the pending recall.
