I spoke with an independent tech at length about this. He had an idea I never considered. Could the shock jam by the internal valves clogging so that the shock cannot fully extend and thus keep the spring partially compressed? I do not know if this is or isn’t possible.
Now the question is why the three of us have this problem. I have and 03, you both have 99s. I doubt the springs or dampers are the same. If the clogged damper theory were valid, I would assume dirt/sand would have to get inside the shock. Did either of you drive in sandy conditions shortly before this happened. I had the problem show itself after driving in the southwest (a few thousand miles later, but maybe the sand has to work its way into some internal shock part) which is inherently sandy.
