We are getting another car and either the 9-5 or Dakota has to go. The only thing I use the truck for is hauling the race trailer, so I need to see if this is possible.

After reading about the drawtite and Saab OEM hitches, I decided to go with the real deal. I local-ish dealer gave me a bit of a brake on the price and the Saab kit is complete, with drawbar and electrical adapter. All and all, not a bad deal. Attaching the hitch took about 4 hours. Not that hard, but lots of work.

Take off the bumper
remove the spacers
mount the reinforcements
install the bumper
drill the extra holes through the body into the reinforcements,
remove the bumper,
Finish drilling the reinforcements,
Mount the Hitch to the bumper
Mount the bumper and install 6 nuts, 4 are quite difficult
Reinstall the front of the bumper,
Mount the hitch to the body,
Install the electrical box

The final result was very sturdy. The concerned with some of the hills here, but I can do 60 on the highway and I think I get 20 mpg. (Time will tell more). This beats the truck with 12 mpg. My normal run with the trailer is 7 miles on a back road to our local track, so it should not be a problem.

I think I will get the caravan mirrors ofer the winter so I can see behind better.

Looks like I am selling the Dakota and keeping the 9-5.

Drive Safe,

Joe
