As I was installing my new Michelin X-Ice radials fitted to the steel rims I happily got for shipping cost only from fellow Saaber John B, in Bismarck ND (after another Winnipeg good guy, LesH, on this BB tipped me off about John's wheel ad in the free classifieds), I noticed the odo reading was 100,006 KM! Darn... I missed the actual turnover to 6 figures!
I certainly hope to get to 200,000KM with this car (should be about 4 years more). All regular and scheduled maintenance is done and I did the new tensioners etc. at 96,000 with the timing belt change.
I'm quite happy the way it drives. I did the AERO swaybar upgrade over a year ago and the new Bilstein HD rear shocks have settled in. With these and the urethane bushings I installed, the handling is just right for me. The Akebono ceramic front pads and new Zimmerman rotors are nicely bedded and I haven't seen a spec of brake dust in a few months!
I once wrote about the good decision I made to buy a GM top line extended no-deductible warranty. Under this coverage, I've had the ACC control unit, one headlamp wiper motor, AC condenser and front badge all replaced and an oil leak repaired. This warranty is good until 110,500KM which should be about late-summer 2006 for me.
The body is tight and looks great after a wash & wax. The interior looks much fresher that most cars that age and so far everything inside is holding up well.
With the great tips and contributors to this BB, I expect the next years to work out fine. Once I am no longer covered by a warranty, this BB will be even more valuable. The pointers and recommendations are possibly worth thousands! If I ever get the dreaded ACC Code 8 or find my ABS unit packs it in, the knowledge about the cost saving ways to fix these are 2 major items this BB has offered up.
Thanks to all,
Reg
