The SAAB bars clamp to the permanent lateral wagon rails, and are plain cross bars with the same shape and size as Thule - so you buy those (they are probably cheaper than the Thule becuae they have no stilts that go into the gutters on cars that have no rails lkike the wagon.
I have purchased, to go on top of the SAAB rails, and basket from Thule which holds a lot of stuff. But any Thule accessory will attach, as will (I think) Yakima, although not perfectly. You can see a lot of that stuff at a big outdoor store. they are sold for less on line. there are excellent bike racks, canoe racks, ski racks, etc that all clamp to the cross rails from SAAB. I would think that a surf board could be strapped directly to the cross bars, unless it need foam protectors of some sort.
One thing to note - front and rear are different lengths because the rails spread a bit as the go back.
