Hello,

Some friends are talking me into buying a used 2001-2003 9-5.

The only concern I have is the sludge problem of the engine. I understand SAAB offered a 8-year warranty. But I am planning to keep the car long so still worry about the sludge problem after 8 years.

Need your guys opinion on the below concerns:

1. How bad is the sludge problem and what is the general probability of getting a bad one? I mean, like roughly 1 out 10 engine will have sludge?

2. Will the sludge eventually damage the engine for sure? Or we can probably live with it?

3. If the sludge does damage the engine, what proof do we need to present to SAAB to get the engine covered? Does SAAB needs oil change proof of every 3K? Or 5K? Fromm SAAB certified mechanic only? Self-serivice or Walmart-service doesn't count?
