I also was experiencing the same problem and read all possible articles and contributions to this theme. Well, I came to the conclusion that there is no single source of a cold starting problem. After having changed the CPS, the temperatur sensor, the thermostat and spark plugs, I was still experiencing the same phenomenon. Then, I put in the full tank one small bottle of the injector cleaning agent (i.e., techron et al.) and voila, after about 500 km, the starting behaviour improved significantly. But it also might be that we have winter now and lower outside temperatures.
So, although I do not have to crank for 3 to 5 seconds anymore, I still am not convinced that the problem is "cured". Probably, I have to wait till the spring arrives to find out more.
Definitely (this is no brainer here) it does have to do with fuel supply. Maybe the fuel filter, maybe the fuel pump or some pressure valve in the line, ...
I do not believe the CPS is the culprit since I read and heard from a few respectable places that a faulty CPS makes rather the warm starts impossible, not the cold ones! And the thermostat / TS repalcement lead seems to me to be too fuzzy anyway. I am sure I just threw money out of the window installing a new thermostat... these things last normally over the entire engine life.
just my 2 cents...
