This is a problem solving board, so you see all kinds of stuff posted here. Saabs in general, and especially 2002 or later 9-5s are quite reliable, even in the eyes of Consumer Reports.
The other thing is that lots of us here have (or have had) numerous Saabs. They ARE quirky, but they are very solid and reliable cars. Or there'd be a lot fewer people on this site.
Once you drive one a while you get so you compare other cars to the Saab. They are not the best at everything, but no car is. What distinguishes Saabs is that they do so many things very well.
Most of us here are willing put up with some quirks--and yes, maybe somewhat higher repair costs--for a car that has all the performance, safety, comfort, and fuel economy as a Saab.
