Since you paid so little for it, if it's in good shape you should keep it as long as possible. Have the compression checked -- if it's good and you're not about to lose a transmission or something super-expensive, then drive on.
My neighbor buys a pre-'95 Mercedes E320 wagon every few years. He gets them with about 80K - 100K miles on them fairly cheap, then runs them up to 250K and sells. Recently he got a beautiful '94 with 90K for something like $15,000 and sold his '89 with 250K for $5500. There are repairs along the way, but nothing huge.
I'm keeping my '95 Nissan Quest van with 154K on it until it dies. It's worth nothing, runs great and every 2 years I spend about $1500 - $2000 in repairs and maintenance. Low excise tax, low insurance, completely theft-proof (who would want it?). It's fun to have a high-miles car that runs well. It keeps my 9-5 Aero off the road for trips to the airport or into the city.
