saab 9-5 aero am radio

I just purchased my first Saab, a 2004 9-5 aero, fully loaded sedan. What a car, and in manual despite strong recomendations for the auto. Yesterday I was driving home and tried to tune in to am 1630 the traffic alert channel aroud the Capitol Beltway. To my surprise I found that I could not get past 1610 and tuning was in 9khz jumps. (FM tuning goes 90.10,90.15,90.20....etc)
From being a short wave enthusiast I know that Europe "tunes" am in this fashion. Perhaps a Euro delivery car I thought and called Saab, USA. Not the case I was informed, and they could shed no more light on the matter. I have an appointment with the dealer, but just wondering if anyone has experienced this?
Hope that the fix is easy, and does not require removing/replacing the unit. I am just bonding with the car and would hate for it to require "surgery" so soon.
Thanks for any input.
