As mentioned by Ron L below, you can get the time for service message to stop( until it's next preprogrammed time interval) by pushing and holding the clear button till the message SERVICE comes on, then continuing to hold it in till the word CLEARED comes on. The SID DOES have to be married to the car wit hthe tech 2 though to make all of it's functions work, and an indie will probably get about 20-30 dollars to do this. One advantage of doing this is you can have him set the intervals for the time to service to the maximum, which is 150 K miles, while they are in there and minimize that stupid function in the process. It appears that most owners follow their own schedule that does not exactly coincide with the one the unit comes programmed with.
Another interesting thing I learned when replacing my SID several months ago is that when the newunit was installed, the speed warning would always come on at 75 MPH, regardless of how the unit was set, and clearing it just resulted in it still coming on at 75. In the tech 2 setup, you must have the speed warning page set to the OFF position if you want to activate and use this device from the SID. This worked this way on two brand new SID's in my car.It is poorly worded and described in the SID operating page for speed warning. There might be other idiosynchracies in setting this unit up,but it is definitely not a plug and play device.
Good luck
