OK, I've gotten a sore finger by now trying to kill off the "Time for Service" message in my Ebay bought used replacement SID. I followed everyone's advice, as I had before over and over, but perhaps as a last resort I consult my Saab CD WIS shop manual..!! Anyway, maybe it will eventually work without the need for the TechII, as did my repeated resetting of the ACC unit I bought off EBay at the same time. Total price for both $190, (NOT $750 dealer price) Finally, the ACC replacement unit did retain my preferred climate control settings at ignition. As for the DIY repairs, I repeat that I never tried any of them (foam tape, ballpoint roller pen pressure on the contact strip, hot iron method, etc) If you search SaabNet Saab Parts, you should find a fellow who advertises repair of the SID display using a variable heat control soldering iron and a stereoscopic microscope. I believe he's asking $95. I don't think he is actually soldering any metal connectors but using the precisely controlled heat to remelt the connector adhesive to achieve a tighter pressure fit of the metal flat cable contacts to the display board. Next niggling thing to do is replace a burned out bulb in the speedo section of the dash...I guess it just won't do having a 100% stealth mode instrument blackout feature while night driving!! One of the very few dumb Saab features, I must admit...
Best of Luck,
Kirk D.
