So many of these all at once (see trunk light above also) :-)
Sounds like you have the reverse--that the sensor is stuck feeding a "closed" position. Open the tailgate with the igntion in a power position, if the dash does not indicate the open door, that would confirm this. If it shows door open, then check the fuse list and see if anything else is on the same fuse as the cargo lights, if nothing else, then could be that. There is also a circuit board on that overhead light but dealer says it's for the off delay.
When we moved in Novemebr I had the lid up for an extended period and wanted to turn off the lights--and discovered there is no switch for the lid to hit like on doors, nor any switch on the light. And I now know why-the switch is stupidly inside the latch mecahnism.
