The 4 cyl engine have a smaller pre cat very close to turbo unit but the V6 engine is using the more old fashioned cat that is placed under the car.
This gives the gasolin a chance to vaporize and maybe even burn up before it hits the cat since the three working cylinders are still sending flames out through the exhaust to light up the gasolin from the dead cylinder bank.
