smoke from drivers side front wheel well

So we got all this snow in the midwest. I've had and driven many saabs since the mid 80's although never really worked on them to be confident enough to know what I'd be looking at if I found it. When I got home from an hr drive through some pretty deep snow I noticed on the front wheel drivers side well there was smoke emitting. There was lot's of snow on the rims and the tires and nothing out of the norm in the wheel well. My guess the smoke was steam from the melting snow on something hot, however there was a pretty good amount. Also, I wasn't doing much hard breaking or just light breaking for that matter so I was curious if any of you have any ideas on what it might have been? The car is a 2001 95 aero with 15" snow tires on it. The traction control was working over time, but I don't know where that's located or if that could've had something to do with it? I don't want to break anything so I'm hoping if I can figure this out, I might prevent it in the future and avoid unnecessary/expensive repair costs...Thanks,
