Were you alone in the car?
It is several posts about that someone have accidently bumped the ignition key, creating a stalling like that.
It doesn't sound like an IDM failure since they usually die, never to start again.
The temp gauge could be related (or not).
Sometimes, the temp sending unit in cylinder head goes bad even though I have seen it more on the mid to late 90s Saabs than 2000 and up.
At this point I think it is more important to get the fault codes read, understood and go from there to find the most likely culprit.
With the Tech 2 scanner they can also force run the gauges to see if it is an electrical glitch in the speedo cluster instead of a failing sensor.
