over 15 years of 100% Saab....caught the tail end of Saab before GM...last new one was a '99 9-5, followed a '95 900SET..found both lacking and bought 2 old Saabs..an '88 convert, and a '91 9kT...couldn't afford the down time for repairs, as I work out of my car...25-30k/year.
When my trusty 9kT went down again, I went to the Infiniti store to try an FX35...always thought they looked like a 9000 on steroids...it was too narrow for my big body, and too tall for my tastes..I made the mistake? of climbing in an M..then drove one...now I lease one for $30+/mo LESS than an '06 9-5 ($46.8 vs 39.1 lists)...go figure.
I too long for the day Saab regains its Saabness...for I will return..can't believe its gonna happen with GM...but then Toyota will probably end up with GM anyway...
Incidentially, I had the same situation with my local dealer (15+ years of sales/service)...couldn't even get a lease quote...simply said "I couldn't lease you a 9-3 for that"...I got the quote from an Atlanta dealer....but then my dealer's 2 masterTechs have both left...one to Jag, the other to Subie (same dealership)...after GM took over in 2000...a young "new" master... right before GM dismantled the program...just left to work for a local indie....
I'm happy about my decision...the M IS a spectacular car...I'm sooo sad about leaving Saab, and about Saab in general.
I have my 9000 listed locally...hope NOT to sell it....
Chis
