Yes, you should change it, IMO.

Toyota's price is the lowest I've found for T-4 fluid. This stuff was developed specifically for the AW 55 transmission by Exxon. Since then, Exxon and Mobil merged, and Mobil sells it as 3309 ATF. You can also purchase it from a Saab dealer, where it is coincidentally called Saab 3309 ATF (for like $9.00 per quart). It is also available from Saturn for around $7, and from Volvo for something north of $15, IIRC.

There is also a letter floating around from Valvoline claiming their Mercon V ATF meets T-4 specs, but for the few dollars above what Toyota charges for the real article, I'm not sure I'd chance it.

The filter screen is buried deep inside the transmission - not something you change for normal maintenance. When you drain and fill, you get to change a little less than half the total fluid. According to the book, a fill consists of 3.5 liters - but when I've had it done, a full 4 quarts brought the level up to "just right".

My plan had been to drain and fill every 10,000 miles (every other oil change) after 30,000. But note that I tow my CV 2,000 miles a year.
