Agree with Stephen,
Only you can determine what your needs are. I currently own a 2000 9-5 Aero Wagon and used to own a 1999 9-3SE convertible. Both are quite different cars. Definitely got more looks with the convertible but my Aero wagon with the two piece BBS rims get quite a few compliments as well. Even with performance enhancements to the 9-3 (steering rack clamp, larger anti-roll bar and MBC, it still does not have the performance, handling and ride quality of my 9-5. For commuting, the 9-5 is more comfortable for me. Ultimately, I sold the 9-3 because maintaining the soft top was becoming costly, the body shudder was unacceptable over coarse roads and the turbo lag when the ambient temperature was hot made my 9-3 feel slow. But on a nice sunny day in California, with the top down in a 9-3, it justs make you feel great and the pressures of work are forgotten.
