Considering a move from 9-3 to 9-5 - should I?

I have a 2000 9-3 base auto with 65K that ends warranty in July 2006. It's had its share of problems (which haven't cost us a dime under CPO), including:
new A/C compressor
new DIC (to be replaced again under recall)
complete engine teardown and scrub due to sludging
new turbo
new trans mount
Did the 60K service with idler pulley replacement and have had it on Mobil 1 since the desludging. My wife and I are trying to decide if we should keep it for the long haul or ditch it now in favor of an 02 or 03 9-5. Opinions? I do like the idea of a quieter, cushier ride on the freeway and fewer squeaks and rattles. But I'm also frugal and am looking forward to not having a car payment. I still really like the 9-3, but am concerned about big repairs and no warranty.
If we did go for a 9-5, I'm in totally new territory. Any opinions on versions (4 vs. 6 vs. Aero)? Engine reliability and performance as an auto are of primary concern, trim level is secondary. We'd buy CPO again.
Thanks for your thoughts.
