Absolutely and they're all cool... NG9-3 folks will feel right at home in a 9-5, same controls and control layout, dash appearance and themes, etc.. The 9-5 addresses the 9-3 chassis deficiencies with fully independent rear suspension and better isolation with a stiffer platform and far less squeaks and rattles so a 9-5s ride and handling is far superior to a NG9-3.
Inside most have the killer Harmon Kardon sound system, heated seats and sometimes the vented seat option and auto dimming inside and outside mirrors. The ACC is dual and the wheel tilts as well as telescopes.
And for you hatchback lovers the coolest Saabs of all, and some say the best looking, are 9-5 SportWagons.
2.3LPT Linears, V6 Arc and 2.3 HOT Aeros are all well liked, there is no reason to reject any of them and more choices to suit your tastes. If you get an Aero for you, you won't penalize her with an overly stiff ride, though she (and you too) might scrape the spoiler a time or two. IMHO an Aero 9-5 has as nicer freeway ride than any NG9-3.
The silver lining to 9-5 ownership is the superior reliability record of 9-5's, arguably the most reliable Saab ever and even very favorable against the Japs and recommend for safety as well as reliabilty by some consumer publications.
CPO only goes back to 2002 so you'll be assured of the mid cycle enhancements of the 2002's, the 5 speed auto, the sport seats in the Aero, the mild styling revisions and the availibility of xenons, park assist and rain sensing wipers if you want all the toys.
