Maybe I wasn’t clear. I have cupped summer tires on currently. I am looking forward to smooth winter tires at last no that my rear alignment is ok. I didn’t replace the tires or swap to the winters because I didn’t want to ruin more tires. I put less than 12K on a set of summers with a rotation before having the right rear blowout due to this failed subframe and weak rear springs.
Why can’t the subframe be defective? Saab can make mistakes just like anyone else. All I know is my rear camber was -2.8 before the shocks and dampers, -2.2 before the subframe, but after two shims, and is now -0.9 after the subframe was replaced. Clearly the subframe was broken. My service order says the subframe was deformed and that it was changed per Saab Cars stating it was bent. Saab cars never inspected my car directly. The field engineer found that the subframes fail and advised replacement.
I never said negative rear camber or the usage of a rear subframe was problematic. When the subframe can’t hold its geometry under full loading, that is defective. It could be a design or a manufacturing problem or both. It is interesting that this 2005 part supersedes all earlier parts. Maybe Saab finally fixed this problem. I wish I could find out for sure so I can know whether my car will hold up to future use or not.
Lastly, I qualified my EPC comment in by follow to Anders.
