John,
Since you over filled the fuel tank, you may have flooded the engine. I did the same thing with the wifes 99 9-5. Topped the tank off by a buck fifty so I would get an even five back, so the fuel filled the hoses in the emissions system and flooded the engine when I went into a high vacuum mode (100 yards down the street). I just cranked on it for what seem to be minutes and it finally started, and boy was it rich. I was suprised the battery could take the abuse, well the battery died two months later.
So, I learned: don't top off the tank trying to fit in another buck worth of fuel and make sure you get three clicks form the cap.
I'm going off the statement you made: "As I turned the ignition, it sounded as usual (meaning it was cranking), but it didn't translate into starting the engine (the engnine did not fire).
