Do not confuse OHMS IMPEDENCE with OHMS RESISTANCE they are not the same
Speakers are specified in OHMS IMPEDENCE.
Amplifiers are designed to work in to a specific OHMS IMPEDENCE.
An amplifier driving an incorect impedance load can distort many other audio parameters as well as the sound volume.
Most amplifiers but not all will have a load range specified and it is always best to keep within this range for the best sound quality.
It is very doubtful if a simple resistor would compensate for an impedance mismatch.
Look at a good Hifi audio book
