Dear SAAB Club Members,

I have recently purchased a one owner 1999 SAAB 95 which has only travelled 75,000 kilometres and is in general terms in excellent condition but for one annoying problem that neither I nor my local SAAB dealer can rectify. Needless to say I am hoping that amongst your knowledgeable and experienced membership someone else has experienced and rectified this problem.

Specifically my vehicle has a vibration which unlike your classical unbalanced wheels actually travels through the whole vehicle, you can literally feel it through your seat as can your passenger.

On smooth roads it can be felt from 0 - 100 km's after which the vibration becomes exponentially worse. The dealer has rebalanced and even changed wheels to eliminate tyres and wheels as a potential source and has also checked front and rear wheel alignment and inspected the drive train and drawn a blank. I should note that the rims are not standard SAAB rims hence they require a hub locator, however as they have now been off balanced and re-balanced eight times and even replaced with genuine SABB rims wherein the problem still persists hence I think it is safe to exclude the rims and tyres as the cause of the problem.

Recently the SAAB service technicians they indicated that if the vehicle when travelling at 100 km's is pulled into neutral the vibration reduces but it does not disappear. The reduction in vibration could mean that the balance shaft needs replacing, however as the vibration should really disappear completely if the problem is eminating from the balance shafts they cannot guarantee that this is the cause which would mean that if I proceeded I would be making a $3,000 gamble which may not resolve the problem. More recently despite the fact that the vehicle has just had a major service, when coming to a stop the engine will suddenly run very roughly and then quit. So far it starts again however I am now more mystified than ever and have no idea if this is related to the vibration.

Needless to say if anyone can assist I would be most grateful as I would like to keep the vehicle but certainly not if I can't get rid of this annoying vibration and now the engine quiting.

Many thanks for your consideration, I look forward to receiving your advice.

Best regards

Brian Andrews
