A '99 9-5 with such low miles should be a very nice car. But you'll not get much in trade or even selling privately. 7 year old Saabs are best kept or sold to others who appreciate Saabs.
But more to your point, a G6 or a Malibu aren't bad cars. Have driven numerous rentals of each, including a week in a G6 (the big sunroof is nice!). I liked them both, and if I needed a moderately priced car I would dump in 3 or 4 years they would be on the short list. Other than a somewhat budget feel to the interiors The only real failing in the Malibu is I've not found one with good seats. The ones they have turn the car into a penalty box after an hour or so. The G6 models I've driven have better seats and are more fun to drive as long as you have the GT model. Decent power, but not up to turbo levels. I'm not sure, but I think they share the same platform, and it's one they have in common with the Saab 9-3.
Either is fine if all you want is semi-stylish transportation. Both are a major step down from a Saab.
