God bless the folks who buy new cars, but I am still amazed that people will consider spending relatively big bucks to avoid the potential, not the certainty, of repairing an older car. The balance sheet is certainly on the side of retaining the low mileage, not so old, superior car, than spending 3-5 times as much for a newer inferior car, cause it's new(er).
I for one have always preferred an older high-line car, and a Saab 9-5 is one heckuva' nice executive class high-line car that's still currently in production in almost it's orignal form. So wadda'bout a nice CPO 9-5 for the price of a Malibu or G6?
"or move on while I can still negotiate a decent price?", the time has passed for that. You'll lose more in deprectiation in 1-2 years on your newer G6 or Malibu than the whole value of your current 9-5.
If you wanna' new car, fine, but trying to justify it by potential "savings" or timeliness is weak.
I'm very thankful for that new car urge, it's how I make my living, and fortunately for me my advice to keep your current car is often fuel on the fire of that urge, as folks are very skeptical of anything a car saleperson says.
