I have had the same problem for about a year on my 2000 Saab 9-5. Unfortunately you will likely find this gets worse in warmer weather. I have tried to start the engine in neutral, to test the safety switch, with no success. I changed the battery when this started happening with no improvement. I have also tried my second key for the car to see if the key/ignition switch was the issue. The car still didn't start but I am starting to think I need to have the ignition switch replaced since I was told that if the key is not being read properly by the ignition switch it will stop the car from starting. In the year I have had the problem, I have never had the issue when the car is cold (morning or after work when the car has been idle for a few hours). It alsways seems to happen after running the car for at least 30 minutes with enough time to warm it up.
