I removed them without purchasing a small puller, but would never do it without the puller again. Ended up with a cracked windshield! If you want to try it, I was able to do it by putting a board under the base of the wiper arm at the post to put "up" pressure on the arm, while using a mallet to hit the post (I think this is called the "hummer" method). I would highly recommend picking up the small puller that can be purchased at an auto parts store for less than $10.
Good Luck,
ccmSaab
