My 03 midnight blue Aero and I have been together for a almost year now. Some 11,000 trouble free miles. Love the styling, love the menacing lines especially around the wheel well flare with the turbine rims! Promptly after buying the car the SID gave out and I bothered Saab about it - out of mileage warranty but still within time period - they bought me a new SID. Then I swapped out flickering Xenon bulbs for new bright units; this was not a failure but rather a regular maintenance item as far as I'm concerned. Next came the rear hop issue, recently discussed, and I installed new Boge OEM struts. I also put on new tires - Avon 550's - and we're good to go for another 20K miles......since then its been running great! All this for a $16K I could have been a clown and made payments on something else for the rest of my life. I assure you noone would be doing double takes if I rolled through the hood in a generic silver three series.
We've had quite a few roadtrips; Hamptons, Lake Placid, Cape May, Vermont. Never overheated, never stalled, although my other half did shut the car off inadvertently with her knee a while back. Perfect, fast, the ultimate machine to go 200+ miles in prompt fashion.
I remember saying "Oh crap I did it now!" after disassembling four doors, the rear parcel shelf and the trunk to bare metal during the sound deadening job; but the results were well worth the effort!
If you're looking for an accessory; you have to go with the now discontinued rear shade! It significantly reduces the amount of sunlight in the rear of the cabin (in the summer the sunlight comes into the cabin in the form of cool perforated dots) and adds insta class...because of the wide B/C pillars the shade pretty much obscures occupants until the passing car gets up to the front doors without the gangster look of aftermarket tint.
Gotta love the gas mileage "that's a four cylinder in there?!?!" the gas attendants exclaim when I rave at the pump. I get 28-34 when crusing on the highway at anywhere between 65 to 85 mph! 18 around town and 17 in heavy urban traffic.
The new OEM air snorkel upped the hissing from the turbo. :) :) I am yet to bend a wheel! No alignment or vibration issues but the rear camber looks agressive and I believe the tires are wearing accordingly. We got off easy last winter but I think I'm going to spring for the Dunlop M3 Wintersport tires on steel wheels...
Shell Full Synthetic every 4-5K
Techtron every 3K
91-93octane gas
I love this thing! $16K!!!! Thanks for reading. Long live the Aero! I hear the 07 is bringing back the Aero designation.
