I am doing a lot of landscaping arouund our house and am using a lot of sand, dirt, gravel, stone dust, mulch. So several times a year I tow my utility trailer with as much as 3,000 pounds of whatever in it. It is never for a long distance, but as long as I drive moderately the boost never even goes into the broken orange on my '96 9K. It will if I put mmy foot into it, but who needs speed when towing 3000 pounds?
I think the key is to take your time and just get where you are going. I don't think sustained full boost under that kind of load is all that healthy for the engine, but under most road conditons you probably won't be there anyway. Be aware that you should have trailer brakes for a 2000 lb load because stopping is important, too.
