I've got the V-6 which I understand is not prone to sludging. The Dealer recommends 5w-30 Semi-synthetic in mine but I will only use a full-synthetic which is currently Mobil 1. Others on this board have recommended 5w-40/0w-40 European spec full synthetic so I may switch. I did buy 15 quarts of Pennzoil 10w-30 full synthetic on clearance for $2.75 a quart but my SAAB Dealer told me I can't use it if I want to maintain my warranty - bummer. So I'll use in in the Ford product we also own and the garden equipment (or return it).
For what there cars (and engines) cost, I would use a full synthetic. What's an extra $10 per oil change really?
Really glad to hear your csr is well again. And basically a brand-new engine! SAAB needs to step up to the plate and cover some/all of the costs.
