I am the proud owner of a pre-owned base 1999 9-5 with 72K on the odo (a recent upgrade from my 1999 9-3). I knew going in that the 1998-2000 2.3 Ecopower engines had 170bhp (a 15bhp drop from my 9-3), but I find that Abbott Racing's Re-chip to 225bhp is a bit steep: I was quoted $870 (plus shipping from the UK) installed.

Is there any way to get power that won't break the bank? Does anyone have advice on things like new spark plug/ignition wires or K&N/ITG air filters?

Alternately, how easy is it to simply get the ECU chip from a 2001 9-5 (185bhp) and pop it in to a 1999 engine?
