To me, a late model, high mileage car is a potential great buy.
To get that many miles on a 3 to 4 year old car, they have to be mostly highway miles, which are so easy on a car.
The most sludge-prone cars are the low mileage cars which have taken a lot of short trips. During short trips, the oil never gets up to temperature to drive out the water and other bad actors that are a product of combustion, and that's how sludge forms.
You still need to have things checked out by a qualified Saab tech, but the car you describe sounds like it could be a great buy.
I bought my 2000 Viggen with 76,xxx and passed 148,000 on the way to work this morning. I'm planning to go to 250,000.
The link points to another post I wrote to someone asking about a high mileage car.
Best regards,
Dave
