Tire wear question

I have Avon M500 tires on my 99 wagon. I had an alignment done by a competent mechanic and for the first time I am not having the typical inside and outside shoulder wear which has been the demise of many of my tires before their time. BUT
Now i have wear along the middle rib of the tires both front and rear (worse in the front) I have about 4000 miles on the tires and check the pressures frequently. I run 35 lbs. front and rear.
I'm about half way to the wear bars which seems excessively soon for the 4000 miles on them.
Logic tells me that i have them over-inflated but i thought i'd check and see if this is a common problem with all brands and whether i should ADD air or REMOVE air at this point. One Saab mechanic I asked reported a paradoxical wear issue where the middles wore because the tires were underinflated.
