I live in the Carbondale/ Aspen area and our 2000 95 SE Wagon does very well in winter with Blizzaks. Winter mode helps while automatic trans with the turbo can sometimes send the wheels spinning if you're not easy on the pedal. Only the steepest hills on the rare hardpacked days will set it back. Have had two 9000's, one 900 sedan and this wagon here in Colorado since 1988 and have never had studs so in general, I say no studs. As you know, between the plows, magnesium chloride, sand and the sun melting new snow, we don't actually spend that much time on glare ice or deep snow. All of that said, now that we have two kids under 3 years old, I might put studs on it when these Blizzaks are done for added insurance. Depends on mileage of course, but if you go no studs make sure you don't try and milk too many miles out of any of the high end snows as some of them have optimal winter tread on top half and harder rubber underneath and you can tell say the second winter of use as they're not as good. I hope that helps.
