Engine Mounts and Vibration Again (longish)

I know that engine mounts have been discussed before on this board, but I have a symptom that seems a bit different than I've seen discussed. I have an '01 Aero auto and as of late, when I accelerate hard the normal engine growl that I always heard has gotten much louder. At first I thought maybe exhaust leak but that's the only time I hear this. It sounds perfectly normal otherwise (idling, cruising, moderate acceleration).
So I then thought maybe there's a bad engine mount and under hard acceleration the engine is moving under the increased torque load and pushing on the frame or the exhaust, etc.
I tried an experiment in my driveway. I opened the hood so I could see the top of the engine and I put the car in drive and with my foot on the brake, gave it some gas and noticed that the right (passenger) side of the engine lifted maybe an inch and a half. Is this normal, or is this indicative of a bad engine mount?
Thanks,
Gerry
