I have a 2001 V6 with 164k miles on it now and it's still going strong. Some describe the V6 as bullet proof; it has far less common problems than the four cylinder for example it isn't prone to oil sludge, it doesn't have head bolt problems, you will rarely see head gasket problems, no PCV issues, etc... You just have to keep up with the timing belt and tensioners because it's an interference engine. If the belt breaks or a tensioner fails the pistons will smash into the valves leaving you without an engine. Right now my turbo is blowing blue smoke when you start it but both the I4 and V6 have turbo problems with the exception of the Aero four cylinder which has a better turbo. I love my car and the V6 has quite a bit of "pep," especially in sport mode - it's a whole different car. Good luck. Everyone says the 2003 was the best year for the V6, mainly because it's the newest you can get.
