I changed my tranny fluid using Toyota TIV fluid, as it is compatible with 3309. I did the drain twice about 5k ago. I honestly didnt notice any improvement in tranny smoothness after that. However, when I had the fluid changed on my 1999 9-5, I did notice that it shifted smoother after the fluid change. I had the tranny updated with the latest software a month or two ago just because I wanted it done before my warranty expired. The one thing though that I can say is that there are two hills in particular that my car almost always "abruptly" downshifts. One is on a freeway where it goes downhill and I generally have to apply the brakes due to traffic and it does a 5 to 4 downshift, and the other place it always does it is in a residential area where the speed limit is 25 and is also down a steep hill, and does a 3 to 2 downshift. Either way, it only does it when I am going downhill and am either off the gas or applying the brakes.
