I took my car in for the 60k service and asked some very pointed questions and got the following responses, the oil stuff scares me after what I have read here an on some other sites.
Q:What type of oil do you use here, I'm going to start DIY in between the big ones ?
A:castrol syntec blend, we'll do full Syntec if you want +$20, but there is no need if you change the oil every 5K.
Q:what about sludge, dont you need to full syth ?
A:The sludge problem came from the original instructions to change the oil every 10K, but some people went over and that created the sludge problems.
If you use the blend and change every 5K everything will be ok.
Q:My heater valve has already been replaced and service tech who did the service said to inspect the coolant system carefully at each service to watch for any more signs of problems from Dexcool.
A: We recommend to change the coolant every 30K.
Q:Since the serp belt needs to be replaced, what about the idler pullies ?
A:Those look fine and there is no need to replace them now.
