new 9-5 vs 9-3

Hi SAABneteros,
Please pardon the length of this. I have been reading this list for some time and would like to thank everyone of what I have learned. Now I have a rather broad question.
I have a 2000 lpt (175 bhp), manual 9-5 sedan. We bought it planning to buy a 9-3 but in 2000, the older version of the 9-3 was not to our liking and the 9-5 was/is such a great car so we took the plunge for the 9-5. We got a good deal on a not so popular color and optioned car (red, manual, upgrades). Anyhow I am beginning to think of a new car and have a question. We have had a few glitches but nothing major that kept it of the road.
In 2000, it was clear (to us anyway) that the 2000 9-5 was far superior to the 2000 9-3. Now it is certainly NOT clear how much better (if any) the current 9-5 is over the current 9-3. What would SAABneteros say to justify the very hefty price difference (nearly $7000) between base automatic 9-3 and 9-5 sedans? Is there something I am missing? I admit to not driving either new version at this point (our dealer is ~ 1 hour away) but presume the 9-5 is like my old one but tighter handling and with lots more power. I think the 9-3 is better in both those areas as well.
I am especially sensitive to good seats (our original reason to get a SAAB - a decision fully justified by the way) and superior lighting (age is creeping up and our current 9-5 headlights are the best I’ve ever used). Are the 9-5 seats vastly better than the 9-3's, the lights?
Thanks for any insights,
TomW
