Ask to see all mainteraance records (if available) and/or take to a trusted indy Saab specialist to ferret out any gremlins. Sludge may or may not be an issue depending on how the car was driven, oil changes, etc. Known issues: DIC (IDM) check to see if it's the latest cassette or if there were any problems with it. If so, replace if you can afford it. Throttle body may need cleaning, also check the heater valve as they can leak... easy fix tho. If it's a wagon the rear shocks should be checked as they tend to wear faster than the sedan. Check to see if the AC drain hoses have been cleaned out. Also check front brake rotor thickness as the '03 OEM pads are quite abrasive... the new pads aren't as much and throw less dust. A good indy will check the obvious spots... let your instincts guide you. 2003 seem to be the favorite year for the 9-5, tho my '04 isn't a slouch either, just missing a couple of cool minor things like the WB and rear seat heaters and, oh yes... the small net pockets on the B-pillar. Good luck! Drive safe!
