Sludging may be covered, depending on oil change records, type used, etc. There is a really sad story for owner ID "JMJ" posted here. He bought a low-mile SAAB with 30K+ miles, engine was sludged and failed immediately and SAAB said no coverage as not enough proof of adequate servicing. He spent $6000 plus I believe to salvage his purchase. Really awful of SAAB to treat a new owner that way! I will say, I bought a 2002 Arc (V-6) with every option last February with CPO until 8/2008. I am truly glad that I have the CPO. I had a rough start as SAAB has done about $3000 in repairs. With that said, for me, I wouldn't buy a SAAB without a CPO warranty. If you get a bad one, it can break you. I love my car now and feel like it's reliable and in top-shape. Factory warranty and CPO are transferable, I believe.
