Even diesel auto engines, but for diesels, the fuel-air mixture is ignited via compression, not spark-ignition.
2-cycle or 2-stroke.. think small motorcycles, line-trimmers, snowmobiles, outboard motors, etc. Since every stroke is a power stroke, the power/weight ratio for a 2-stroke engine will be higher than a 4-stroke. When weight is not an issue, the 4-stroke engine gets the nod (lawnmower, pressure washer, larger motorcycles, etc.).
In a 2-stroke, there is no bath-type crankcase lubrication so oil must be added to the fuel and consequently burned with combustion.
Saab had a 2-cycle model 30-40 years ago but no longer.
Taking auto shop in high school should be mandatory, IMHO.
