First check the service/ maintenace histroy with the car. If oil change has been done as scheduled, I think Saab offers special warranty against the sludge, something like up to 80,000 miles??? Check with the dealer. Also have the car inspected for any oil leak at front cover, valve cover, at crank ends to see possible evidence of excessive crankcase pressure. Also you can have them pop out the valve cover and/ or drop the oil pan confirm any sludge. You see many posts about the sludge here, but my dealer said the issue is very rare, especially the oil change was done frequently with synthetic oils.
Not sure if you can get the dealer replace the DIC when it is still working, unless yours are under the recall and not yet replaced. But you could try and see how bad they want the car out of their lot.
