Yeah I do not trust what the dealer says most of the time... My point was rather that people tend to post problems here, and we are just a small group of the entire SAAB owners. So many sludge posts here is not like the end of the world, but give you intelligence to look for potential issues.
Personally, I think 10,000 mile service interval that SAAB introduced maybe the part of the issue that they wanna simply call 'poor maintenance', especially without 100% synthetic oils and under some harsh driving condition (like 5 mile drive during winter without engine fully warmed up.) When I had '99 9-3 until 2002, SAAB dealer had semi-synthetic, I think it was 5w-30, and no 100% synthetic. Then I got 03 Linear, and noticed then that SAAB now recommends 100% synthetic, and I have been using M1 0w-40 exclusively. Still 10,000 mile oil change seems very strechy to me, and it would be more due to cost/ environmental concern rather than engine protection for sure.
