I generally use eeuroparts or like sponsor sites for parts I will install myself or have installed by an individual instead of a business. For instance the DI cassete was $300 online and twice that at a dealership and I can change it myself.
I have had the dealer install special parts (bilstein shocks, intrax springs, stainless exhaust, etc..) things they don't sell, and I'm not in the market for such factory parts. The dealer is not a typical dealer though. They didn't charge any extra and were efficient and quick as usual. And like the original poster, I do plenty of business there and have been a profitible and reliable customer for a while.
My independent Jag repair/restoration shop usually gets the parts as a convenience for me. Sometimes, it's inconvenient for them to get the parts if it's something particular I want, like the special aluminum radiator or big brakes. Other things they order since they have the parts connections and practical work experience in knowing what to get, since the parts are more aftermarket than factory and quality/fit/availability can vary widely. They could get the interior carpeting or convertible top in weeks where it would take me months. One of those cases where it's who you know being more important.
